Note that the text color and the orange color are important parts of the content setting.

Part 05 will tell you about firmware upgrade and product initialization.

Most of the products of the Android TV box provide firmware updates.
Before describing the firmware upgrade, let's briefly describe the firmware.
It is a program of the company that is built and built specifically for the device maker to drive digital products.
Take U5 as an example, the firmware is made only for U5, so it can not be used in other Android TV boxes.
And it can be separated by product separately from company.
Each firmware has the same basic structure, but with slightly modified firmware, you have to use the firmware for each right one.

In the case of products that perform various functions, such as the Android TV box, depending on the digital product, it can not be completely manufactured from the beginning.
The manufacturer makes it seem to be perfect, but various errors may occur depending on the usage environment and the pattern of the user, and the user may suggest the functions which the user wants to be added when the user uses them.
In this case, the manufacturer will modify the firmware and provide it to the consumer.
Updating the firmware will fix the problem areas and improve the performance of the device or add various additional functions.
For this purpose, the manufacturer will only provide support for 1 ~ 2 years from the date of product release, and products made in China or abroad may not support firmware update.
Firmware updates are only available for one to two years because we are launching new products with new features in accordance with fast developing technology.
The U5 has also been updated with more than a year of steady firmware updates and many more features have been added.

Please enter in the order 'ATV Setup - About'.

If you look at the bottom, it says 'Build' and the date is in the back ().
At the time of writing the manual, it is assumed that the standard firmware is firmware dated 2018.08.22.

At the top of the system, please press 'Update'.

There are two ways to upgrade the firmware: "Local Upgrade / Online Upgrade".
'Local Upgrade' : This is a method to update the firmware file on the USB memory stick.
'Online Upgrade' : This is a way to automatically download and update files for upgrading the firmware through the Internet.

We'll let you know how to "upgrade online."

Please click 'Upgrade Online'

The online upgrade method is a comparison process because if you check the version of the currently installed firmware and the version of the file on the download server, they will be downloaded and installed.

If firmware upgrade is available, you can select 'Firmware type'.
There are two types of firmware upgrade: Full / Normal for Android TV.
"Full" version : To upgrade your product to full initialization by deleting all user data and installed apps.
'Normal' version  :  To keep user data and installed apps without touching it.

Normally, you can proceed with the 'Normal' update.
Note that 'Debian Linux' should be updated after firmware update.

Since 'Full / Normal' is updated in the same way, 'Normal' will explained.

' Attention! All data will be reset when you select "Full" version
Please select "OK" if you want to upgrade.

Firmware file(update.zip) will be downloaded.

After downloading file, when the 'Upgrade System' message appears, press 'OK'.
Then system will automatically reboot. if box is not boot up, please turn off and on AC power , then box will start to upgrade.

U5 will automatically reboot and proceed with the firmware upgrade.
During the 'Normal' upgrade, the initial setup assistant will not run because the existing setups are still there, but when you upgrade to 'Full', you run the initial setup assistant.
You must also re-install Debian Linux when upgrading to 'Full'.

If box has latest firmware, "there is no file to upgrade" will show.

After completing the firmware upgrade, please enable the 'Auto OTA' function to 'ON'.

When enabled, U5 will check for the latest version if it is connected to the Internet at boot time.
Press 'Go' to proceed with the upgrade immediately.

U5 is available for both Android and Debian Linux (OS).
To use Debian Linux, you need to update Linux separately from the firmware update.
You can proceed with the online upgrade and proceed with the additional update of 'Linux'.
Linux upgrades are done through online upgrades just like firmware upgrades.

Please click 'Upgrade Online'

After checking the version of Linux installed and the version of Linux on the download server the same as the online upgrade.

If a Linux upgrade is available, you can select 'Firmware Type'.
The Linux upgrade type is' Int. Linux / Ext. Linux '.
'Int. Linux ' installs into U5's built-in memory.
'Ext. Linux ' installs on the USB memory stick.

If you are not familiar with Linux, It is recommended to install it in Linux 'U5 internal memory.

After boot up box, then you need to check Linux status that is loaded or not.

If you click 'Reinstall', you can reinstall the firmware in the same way as online upgrade.

Local upgrade is explained above, but USB memory stick is used.
You can download the firmware upgrade file from Google Drive in the link below.

As mentioned earlier, the firmware upgrade file is provided differently depending on the each model and is provided as a compressed file in zip format.

When downloading, please go to the most recent date folder and make sure you get the file name "update.zip" and download the file.
Rename the downloaded file to 'update.zip' and insert the firmware upgrade file into the USB memory stick 'top root'.
The top level root is briefly explained, and the most visible space is the root when you enter the USB disk with my computer based on Windows PC.

Please note that you should not uncompress and put it in compressed form.
When changing the name, be careful not to be 'update.zip.zip'.

When you see the 'Please select a drive' message, select the USB memory stick that contains the 'update.zip' file.

When the 'Upgrade System' message appears, press 'OK'.

U5 will automatically reboot and proceed with the firmware upgrade.

Linux can be upgraded by putting the update file on the USB memory stick in the same way.

Due to the nature of Android products, unexpected errors can occur when installing and using various apps.
In this case, proceed with the initialization of the device.
If you want to initialize all of the device's settings, you have to go through the Linux update again and proceed with the initial setup and all the steps of installing the app again.

Please enter in the following order: 'ATV Setup - Device - Storage & Reset'.

Please press 'Factory data reset' at the bottom.

When you see the message 'Data and settings for your Google account, system or app,' press 'Factory data reset' again.

The information to be backed up will be saved as 'ATV & Android Settings / Google Login Info / Login Information of Installed App & App'.
